Teaching and Tutoring:

Total teaching experience, including college and private school experience: 4+ years.

August 2008 - present Literature Instructor, Solano Community College-developing online and in-class curriculum on Hawthorne, Melville, Miller, and other authors. Part of this assignment includes developing Student Learning Outcomes.

January 2007 - present. Remedial English and Literature 2 Instructor. I prepare students for their reading and writing labs, and teach critical thinking and writing. In Literature, we hold engaging conversations about Shakespeare, Flannery O'Connor, and other authors. Each class includes the selected use of multi-media and Power Point presentations and notes that are available to students via e-college.

Substitute Teacher 6-12, Napa Unified School District. I have been teaching at all K-12 levels in Napa for 2 years, and have participated in reading and grading High School Exit Exams.

March 2008 - June 2008 ASES Before- and After- School Teacher, Vallejo Unified School District. I assisted students with science projects, class work, and recreational activities.

August 2006 - present Teaching and Substitute Teaching
 Substitute Teacher with Napa and Fairfield-Suisun Unified School Districts;
 Substitute Teacher with the California STAR Program;
 60% 8th grade Provisional English Teacher, Vallejo Unified School District. I taught 2-periods of eighth grade strategic English daily with one period of prep. I developed curricula based on content standards, and managed a difficult class with effective classroom management techniques. Students' test scores and behavior improved.

January 2007 - June 2007 English Instructor, Los Medanos Community College
Taught one session of Remedial English, developing classes that effectively helped students develop better critical thinking and writing skills.

While staffing was at a minimum, I was asked to develop and teach classes in English, Math 1, Algebra, Interpersonal Communication, Psychology, Ethics, and Supervision.

1984-1985 Community College Instructor of Remedial English Composition, part-time - Ohlone Community College.

1981-2 Technical Instructor, full time - Total Technical Institute
Developed coursework and taught a 6-month Introduction to Computers class, including computer architecture, programming languages, and Business System Analysis and Design.

Office Management:

Program Assistant, 50% part time, Sunny Hills Services, Marin County, CA, January 2004 - February 2005
Managed a high school office, including reviewing and maintaining community mental health and school district records, entering student attendance, overseeing employee timesheets, closing and warehousing records. I monitored funds, created correspondence, maintained office machinery, and coordinated calendars. Proactively addressed students' needs and supported the therapeutic and educational staff.

Technical Writing:

My career in technical writing began in the mid 1970's, when I created punch-card JCL streams and programs for an IBM 360 computer. In 2001, my position was outsourced, and I began making a career-change into teaching.

Senior Technical Writer, eGain, August 2000 - March 2001
Maintained over 20 enterprise-level documents. Updated documentation for customer relationship management (CRM) system with guis, application server, gateways, and databases. Documentation included: installation, users and systems guides for NT and Unix, HTML release notes, overview, and reports guide. I updated an API guide. Moved a help system from RoboHelp to WebWorks. Acted as the documentation project leader in engineering meetings.

Contract Technical Writer, Generic Media, December 2000 - Feb 2001
Set up technical writing department. Purchased RoboHelp, implemented single-sourcing to generate hard copies, wrote TOCs, glossary, index, and QA test plans, and organized and ran meetings.

Contract Technical Writer, QuantumShift, May 2000 - Aug 2000
Documented a Java-based telephone account management system, including: HTML help specs, deploying the help system, developing a glossary and style guide, and updating the Getting Started guide. I supervised a junior writer, reviewed Java programs, and worked with QA on bugs found during documentation testing.
